What’s New In The Castle 039;s Video Server?
Castle’s Video Server allows for a simple and easy to use interface
into directories of video files stored on local, remote or removable
drives.
Castle’s Video Server supports file playback through Windows
Media Player 9. When used with Media Player 9, the Player plays
.avi files. When used with Player 8,.avi files may work, but may
have a very poor performance. If you’re having trouble with
.avi files, try the.mpeg format instead.
The server uses a simple frame by frame display for playback.
There is no point and click or browse menus, the user must know
exactly where the files are on their drives to see them.
Additionally, the files must be copied into the vs_sample/video
directory for the server to access them.
Getting Started:
The process to start the server from the command line is the same as any
other executable. The location of the executable is configured by an
environment variable VS_CMD. If you start the server from the command
line, VS_CMD is set to the path to the executable, which is used as
VS_CMD. If VS_CMD is not set, the executable will be located in
C:\Program Files\Castle’s Video Server\vs.exe
If VS_CMD is set, a new copy of VS_CMD.exe will be created with the
correct path.
The first time you start the server from the command line, it will
ask for confirmation as to whether to start the server as a Windows
service. This will be stored in the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Castle’s Video Server\Config\VC_Service.
If you have the VS_CMD environment variable set in the registry, you
will not need to answer the question the first time you start the
server.
