The host immune system’s response is abnormally deficient in cystic fibrosis patients leading to frequent respiratory tract infections. We reported previously that hyperforin, a sesquiterpene lactone from the medicinal herb St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) reduces the number of pulmonary tuberculosis cases. We hypothesized that hyperforin and hypericum extract may also reduce the frequency of respiratory tract infections in cystic fibrosis patients. In a retrospective study involving newly diagnosed cystic fibrosis patients we analysed the rate of pulmonary exacerbations and the occurrence of pyogenic and bronchopulmonary infections (urine samples for bacteria) for 90 consecutive months. The data were recorded for 1033 patients. Of these patients 771 used St. John’s wort extract for the entire 90 months and the remainder used hypericum extract. The patients who did not use St. John’s wort and hypericum extract served as controls. The first 90 months of treatment with St. John’s wort and hypericum extract were considered the test period. A significant difference between the number of pulmonary exacerbations in patients who used St. John’s wort and hypericum extract and those who did not use them was observed during the test period. The number of infections was also reduced. The use of St. John’s wort and hypericum extract had a protective effect against respiratory tract infections in patients with cystic fibrosis.Ixodes (Ixodes) compactus

Most people love the idea of “saving money”. There is no doubt about that. But, there are some serious downfalls to the practice of saving. I’ll put aside the most obvious, and focus on the negative effects of “saving money.”

Saving money only gets us so far

Here’s the thing. It’s great, even revolutionary, to save money.

But the real power of “saving money” is being able to “pay off” debt.

This gives you freedom and flexibility in the future. It allows you to do what you want with the money. It opens up new opportunities.

And saving enough to pay off debt? Wow.

Anybody can do that.

The Downfall: Spending, Spending, Spending

When you “save money”, you often end up with a surplus.

This is generally because of a decrease in spending, along with a rise in income.

The surplus is money you don’t need.

This is great. Right?

That was the problem.

Many people would spend this surplus.

When you fail to spend this “surplus”, you tend to accumulate more.

Until you get to the point where you need to create a job or two just to pay off the accumulated debt.

This creates a vicious cycle.

It’s ultimately self-sabotaging.

You’re losing out on free money. Because money is free.

And now you’ve fallen into a debt trap.

A debt trap.

Especially if you’re facing some financial debt.

If you want to pay off your debt, you need to eliminate the surplus you now have.

You can do this by going back to the basics.

Building up a habit of “saving money” is great. And it can
